Paris has a reputation for being better suited to couples than families, but that reputation mostly comes from trying to see it the way a childless traveler would — packed museum days and long dinners. Seen at a family pace, Paris has some of the best kid-specific attractions in Europe.
Top Family-Friendly Stops
Jardin du Luxembourg — Paris’s best park for families, with a large playground, a puppet theater (Guignol shows run several times daily), and a toy sailboat pond where kids can rent small boats to push around with a stick.
Jardin d’Acclimatation — a dedicated children’s amusement park in the Bois de Boulogne with rides, gardens, and a small farm, purpose-built for younger kids.
The Louvre, in small doses — rather than attempting the whole museum, pick 3-4 highlights (the Mona Lisa, Venus de Milo, Egyptian antiquities) and cap the visit at 90 minutes; the museum’s scale exhausts adults, let alone kids.
Eiffel Tower at the Champ de Mars — you don’t need to go up to make it a highlight; the park beneath the tower has open lawns for kids to run while adults admire the view, and it’s free.
Musée des Arts et Métiers or the Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie — hands-on science museums that work well for a rainy day and hold kids’ attention far longer than fine art.
Getting Around
The Paris Métro is extensive but has many stations without elevators — a lightweight stroller or carrier is far more practical than a full-size stroller for a Paris trip. Many families find walking, supplemented by occasional taxis, more manageable than navigating stairs with a stroller and luggage.
